Capa

The name CAPA, isn’t just an acronym, it also means “cover”, “makeup”, “cape” in Portuguese, which embodies a philosophy of transformation and beautification. Like a layer of makeup or design can enhance and redefine, CAPA covers neglected, rusted, forgotten, or underutilized spaces and transforms them into vibrant, impactful areas.

Our Mission

CAPA—Community of Artists in Proximity to Agua—is an artist community based in Costa de Caparica, housed in the Transpraia hangar. Our mission is to transform the underutilized spaces through innovative art projects, by offering a platform for artists to engage with their surroundings and creating impactful works that bring new life to neglected areas. We focus on practical initiatives such as artist residencies, exhibitions and workshops that encourage collaboration between artists, local communities and cultural stakeholders. By creating a space where creativity meets regeneration, CAPA aims to turn Costa de Caparica into a hub of artistic and social innovation. Our projects have the aim to create lasting impact on the local environment, stimulating both cultural and economic growth.

Where others see ruins, CAPA sees a canevas for possibilities. CAPA is a space where artists, architects and designers are encouraged to reimagine, reshape, and revitalize—turning the forgotten into something beautiful and the ordinary into the extraordinary.
